Newcastle suffer a double injury blow before West Ham

Bournemouth 1 – Newcastle 4

Newcastle’s win at Bournemouth was so heavy that Aston Villa – who didn’t play on Wednesday night – moved above the Cherries in the table.

Bournemouth have fallen to second-bottom of the league, behind Villa on goal difference, following a 4-1 defeat to the Magpies.

Allan Saint-Maximin was the star of the show for Newcastle as he claimed three assists. He set up goals for Dwight Gayle, Sean Longstaff and Miguel Almiron.

Valentino Lazaro came off the bench to score Newcastle’s fourth.

Dan Gosling scored a late consolation for Bournemouth against his former employers.

Newcastle’s double injury blow before West Ham

Next up for Newcastle is a home match against West Ham on Sunday.

Manager Steve Bruce is set to be without Sean Longstaff in the Hammers match after he sustained a hamstring injury on Wednesday.

Moments after scoring his goal, Longstaff was replaced by Miguel Almiron. After the match, Bruce confirmed:

Sean’s got a hamstring that kept him off, which is a blow because I thought it was as good as I’ve seen him look.

Newcastle’s fifth and final change of the game at Bournemouth saw Javier Manquillo go off for DeAndre Yedlin.

Manquillo is another doubt for West Ham as he picked up a knock. Bruce said:

We’ve got one or two others – Manquillo’s got a bit of a strain – but I’ll not really know for the next 24 or 48 hours.

A word on Allan Saint-Maximin

Steve Bruce also gushed over Allan Saint-Maximin’s performance in the win against Bournemouth. He said:

“Every ground I go to, people want to talk about him. We’ve seen what he is like when he’s fit, and I think the lockdown has helped him with his hamstring.

“He had that nasty hamstring injury, but he seems to be over it now, and he’s a wonderful, wonderful talent. He’s just got to keep his feet on the ground and not get too carried away, because he’s still got a lot to do.

“But three assists in a game just shows what he’s capable of. There are still things he has to learn, but he’s a real, real talent, and a real find for the club. He gets you off your seat. He can be hard work at times to manage, don’t get me wrong, but he’s a really wonderful talent.”

Saint-Maximin has also been hugely active on social media since the Bournemouth game.
