Liverpool this morning released a joint statement with the Merseyside police department, condemning the actions of the club’s fans over the last 48 hours.

Amid a historic campaign, the Reds’ 30-year wait for the English top-flight title of course came to an end this past Thursday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have dropped points in just 3 of their 31 Premier League fixtures to this point in the season, a run which, coupled with the unexpected struggles of Manchester City, has seen Liverpool open up a record-breaking advantage over their ‘title rivals’.
A comfortable win over Crystal Palace on Wednesday saw the Merseyside giants reestablish their 23-point lead over 2nd-placed City, leaving them within touching distance of champion status.
As such, when Pep Guardiola’s Citizens fell to defeat at the hands of Chelsea 24 hours later, Liverpool’s long, long wait for the club’s first-ever Premier League crown was officially brought to an end.

Celebrations go too far
The celebrations on the back of the Reds’ title win being confirmed, meanwhile, have since unsurprisingly proven equally as lengthy as they have wild.
The frustrations of 3 decades have come pouring out, with Liverpool’s fans, players and staff alike having essentially treated the last 48 hours as one long party.
As is so often the case, however, a minority of those involved in the celebrations have taken things too far.
The scenes on the streets of Liverpool over the last couple of nights have proven frankly ridiculous at times, with social distancing guidelines having gone out the window, and some of the city’s most historic buildings used as firework targets:

‘Number one priority’
The actions of those involved in scenes such as the ones showcased above, meanwhile, have since forced Liverpool, as a club, into action of their own.
In a statement released across their official website and social media platforms a short time ago, the Reds, teaming up with Merseyside Police and the Liverpool City Council, slammed the behavior of the supporters to have taken to the streets last night as ‘wholly unacceptable’.
The Premier League champions have also urged those involved to abide by social distancing guidelines, with the safety of Liverpool’s citizens the ‘number one priority’:
‘Several thousand people turned up at the Pier Head on Friday June 26 and some chose to ignore the social distancing guidance and risk public safety.’
‘Our city is still in a public health crisis and this behaviour is wholly unacceptable.’
‘The potential danger of a second peak of COVID-19 still exists and we need to work together to make sure we don’t undo everything that has been achieved as a region during lockdown.’
‘When it is safe to do so, we will all work together to arrange a victory parade when everyone can come together to celebrate. Until that time, the safety of our city and our people continues to be our number one priority.’
