Man City reportedly ‘ready to form guard of honour’ for Liverpool

The latest word stemming from the English media suggests that Manchester City are prepared to provide a guard of honour to Premier League champions-in-waiting Liverpool.

Liverpool’s title charge

Jurgen Klopp’s men have of course enjoyed a historic campaign to date.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic brought football across England to a halt, Liverpool had built a staggering 25-point advantage over 2nd-placed Manchester City in the Premier League table.

This came with the Merseyside giants having dropped points in just 2 of their 29 league fixtures to this point in the campaign.

City to honour champions?

As such, as things stand, Liverpool require just 2 more wins to make sure of the club’s first league title in 30 years.

The Reds’ first 2 fixtures following next week’s restart come in the form of a Merseyside derby clash with Everton on Sunday, and a meeting with Crystal Palace 3 days later.

The latter of these outings could therefore see Klopp’s outfit finally crowned as English football’s finest.

Coincidentally, the ensuing matchup in Liverpool’s fixture list will then see the Anfield powerhouse face off with the side whom they are set to replace as Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s men memorably pipped the Reds to domestic glory last season following a historic title race, making it two straight league titles.

Having been utterly outshone by Liverpool this time around, though, the latest word suggests that City are ready to honour the achievements of their rivals.

As per a report from the Mirror, should the Merseysiders head into their meeting with the Citizens having been officially confirmed as Premier League champions, City will welcome Liverpool onto the pitch with a guard of honour.

It should be noted, though, that the venue for the clash is yet to be announced.
