Lucas Torreira’s agent has recently suggested that his client, who is contracted to Arsenal until 2023, would love to return to Italy.
Torreira’s Arsenal stint
Arsenal secured the services of Lucas Torreira from Serie A outfit Sampdoria back in the summer of 2018.
The Gunners are understood to have paid £26m for the Uruguayan’s services.
Torreira had previously impressed in Italy and during the 2018 World Cup, the Fray Bentos- Torreira put on some superb displays that will have no doubt excited his new fans.
However, despite notching 83 appearances across all competitions for the north Londoners, Torreira has had somewhat of a mixed stint in England.
Pablo Bentancur, Torreira’s agent, has previously suggested that Torreira was unhappy with a position change during Unai Emery’s stint in the Arsenal dugout.
And the 24-year-old has also been linked with a return to the Serie A since arriving in the English capital with AC Milan and Napoli the sides most persistently tipped to move for Torreira.

Torreira eyeing Italy return?
Torreira did seem to regain some of his spark when Mikel Arteta took the reins at Arsenal though.
This was highlighted by the fact that in Arteta’s first three games in charge, Torreira had made more ball recoveries than he did in 10 Premier League selections under Emery in 2019/20.
Arsenal’s results have also experienced an upturn under Arteta with the Gunners losing just one league tie since the former Manchester City coach stepped into the dugout.
Despite this, if recent comments from Torreira’s agent are to be believed, Torreira’s future in London is very much up in the air.
Speaking in a recent interview with The Guardian, Bentancur stated he believed his client will be a man in demand when the transfer window opens:
“Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered. And the injury arrived, fortunately less serious than expected. Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man (meaning he will be high demand when the transfer window opens).”
And when pressed on whether a deal could be done for Torreira in the next window, Bentancur claimed that the midfielder would love to return to Italy:
“I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great.”
