Richarlison’s ankle problem before Tottenham & Brendan Rodgers is critical of Leicester players’ mentality

Everton 2 – Leicester 1

Leicester’s Champions League hopes took another hit on Wednesday night following a 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Since football restarted, Leicester have failed to win a game.

A 1-1 draw at Watford was followed by a 0-0 draw with Brighton.

Leicester have since lost two in a row: 1-0 against Chelsea and now a 2-1 defeat at Everton.

Everton raced into a 2-goal lead at Goodison Park. Richarlison smashed home the opener, before Gylfi Sigurdsson converted Everton’s first penalty of the season.

Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench to score for Leicester early in the second half, but the Foxes failed to find a leveller.

Richarlison’s ankle problem before Tottenham

The major drawback for Everton against Leicester was an injury to Richarlison.

Richarlison was forced out of the game early in the second half. The Brazilian hobbled down the tunnel in the 57th minute.

Next up for Everton is an away trip to Tottenham on Monday. Will Richarlison be fit for Spurs?

After Leicester, Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti suggested that Richarlison should be fine for their next game. He said:

It’s a knock on his ankle. He will not have a problem to recover.

Everton’s Europa League ambitions

Everton’s win in midweek lifted them onto 44 points, leaving them just 2 points behind Arsenal in 6th.

So can the Toffees earn a spot in next season’s Europa League? Ancelotti said:

The team are showing a good spirit and motivation. The dream of the Europa League is very important for us and for this reason we are going to fight.

There are a lot of teams fighting for the Europa League and it will be an exciting run.

Brendan Rodgers is critical of Leicester players’ mentality

As Everton surge up the table, Leicester’s form is nosediving.

While the Foxes remain 3rd in the table, they are just one points ahead of Chelsea and three points ahead of Man United.

Can Leicester hang on to a top 4 spot? Manager Brendan Rodgers is obviously concerned as he criticised his players’ mentality after Wednesday’s defeat:

I said at half-time, there’s too many times I have to come in and feel like I have to rescue the game either by making the change or with a more aggressive half-time talk to get a response.

I know we have a young squad, but to consistently compete at the top, it’s a mindset. There’s no doubt we have to have a reset mentally if we want to achieve what we want to.

There’s too many times we have to change that mentality.
