Southampton’s Cedric Soares agrees 4-year Arsenal contract

Since joining Arsenal on loan from Southampton, Cedric Soares has yet to feature for the Gunners.

The Portuguese right-back has been injured for the entirety of his stay in north London.

Yet, despite his lack of action, Atheltic reporter David Ornstein has confirmed that Cedric has agreed a 4-year deal to move to Arsenal.

The 28-year-old defender had been set to return to Southampton on June 30, when his loan deal expired.

Cedric’s agent is Kia Joorabchian.

What does this mean for Hector Bellerin?

Why have Arsenal signed Cedric? Is he being lined up as a replacement for Hector Bellerin?

We recently reported that Arsenal are considering selling Hector Bellerin this summer. That rumour was revealed by reporters Ian McGarry and Duncan Castles on The Transfer Window podcast.

Now 25, Bellerin is under contract until 2023.

According to Duncan Castles, the Gunners would want around 40 million pounds for their Spanish international right-back.

Two clubs have been linked to Bellerin: PSG and Inter Milan.

 

David Luiz signs 1-year deal

David Ornstein also reported that, days after his horror show against Man City, David Luiz has agreed a one-year deal to remain at Arsenal.

Speaking after the Man City game, Luiz confirmed his intention to stay at the club. He said:

I love to be here that is why I continue to train hard and that is why I came today. Nobody asked me to speak, it is up to me to show my face.

I want to stay. The coach knows and wants me to stay, we are waiting for the decisions.

Pablo Mari & Dani Ceballos

Despite his recent injury which has ended his Premier League campaign, Arsenal have also signed Pablo Mari to a 4-year deal. That’s confirmed by David Ornstein.

On Monday, Flamengo’s Marcos Braz confirmed that Mari has joined Arsenal on a permanent basis. He said:

Pablo has been sold. We know he suffered an unfortunate injury, but the case is closed. At the right time, the figures of this transfer will appear on our balance sheets.

Finally, the Guardian believe that Arsenal have agreed to keep Dani Ceballos on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the Premier League season.
