Manchester City 5 – Burnley 0
After a 3-0 win against Arsenal last Wednesday night, Man City made it two wins from two games on Monday against Burnley.
Pep Guardiola rung the changes – 8 from the team that started against the Gunners – and his City side ran out comfoftable 5-0 victors.
The game was over as a contest by halftime, following a brace from Riyad Mahrez after Phil Foden scored the opener.
David Silva scored City’s fourth, before Foden complete the rout with his second of the game.
Sergio Aguero to miss Chelsea & Newcastle
The major downside for City against Burnley was the loss of Sergio Aguero just before the break.
Aguero won the Sky Blues a penalty, however seconds later the striker was forced out of the game through injury.
Gabriel Jesus replaced Aguero in City’s attack.
Next up for City is a trip to Chelsea on Thursday night. Chelsea, who beat Aston Villa on Sunday, are 4th in the Premier League.
On Sunday, Guardiola’s troops are back on the road when the take on Newcastle at St James’ Park.
After the Burnley game, Pep Guardiola indicated that Aguero’s injury could leave the striker out of action for some time.
PEP (on Aguero) 💬 It doesn’t look good. He felt something in the knee.
We will see tomorrow. We will see what he has. He will struggle in the last month. He has some pain in his knee
We will see. The doctor said tomorrow is the next test but it doesn’t look good.

With that in mind, it seems certain that Aguero will miss the Chelsea and Newcastle games.
Indeed, there are fears the attacker’s Premier League season is now over. While, if that proves true, Aguero could also miss Man City’s participation in the Champions League in August.

Aguero set for a knee operation in Barcelona
Aguero’s dad, Leonel del Castillo, has given an update on his son’s knee problems to Radio La Red following the Burnley game.
According to Leonel del Castillo, Sergio is set for a knee operation in Barcelona this Friday. He said:
His knee was already hurting and he got worse in the game. He thinks it’s a meniscus (injury), although tomorrow they will do an MRI to confirm it. I predict that they will operate on him in Barcelona on Thursday or Friday.
If that prognosis comes to fruition, then ESPN Brasil estimate that Aguero could be sidelined for 6 weeks.
That would make it highly unlikely that Aguero would be available for the Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
