Rodri: Man City are better than Real Madrid

On Wednesday, Spanish paper AS have spoken to Man City midfielder Rodri.

Rodri joined Man City last summer from Atletico Madrid.

The Sky Blues reportedly paid 70 million euros for the midfielder, as per his release clause. The 23-year-old agreed a 5-year deal with City.

This season, he’s played 26 times for City in the league, scoring three goals.

Man City could end up winning three trophies this season. They’ve already won the Carabao Cup, while the FA Cup and Champions League are still up for grabs.

In the Champions League, City are in pole position to knock out Real Madrid. City won the first-leg of the last-16 tie 2-1 in Spain.

AS asked Rodri to preview the second-leg against Los Blancos, and the City midfielder said:

You never know what can happen. I don’t trust Madrid, even though we won 1-2. They are Madrid and the tie is far from over.

We have a better team and we showed it in the first leg, but there is one step to take. 

We must respect our rival. We have to go for the victory because, if not, we will get confused.

 

Rodri talks about Luka Modric switching clubs

Luka Modric recently named his two favourite Man City players: Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling.

AS somewhat twisted Modric’s comments as they posed the following question to Rodri: “Which Madrid player would ‘sign’ for City? Modric said Sterling.”

Rodri duly replied:

Well, I’d tell you the same, really… It is true that (Modric) is getting older and it is not the same, but when he’s fully fit he’s unique.

He is a complete midfielder, not only capable of distributing and recycling, but also breaking lines with a clinical driving run. In addition, he has vision, shooting, timing…

 

Could Rodri ever return to Atletico Madrid?

When asked that question, the Man City star kept the door ajar:

To be honest, I don’t know where I will be in the future… I never rule out going back because it is a unique club.
