Qingdao Huanghai claimed new Man City coach Juan Manuel Lillo left job because of his mother’s ill health

Juan Manuel Lillo joins Man City

Manchester City announced a significant appointment on Tuesday: Juan Manuel Lillo has been named Pep Guardiola’s new number two.

That post has been vacant since Mikel Arteta left City to become Arsenal’s manager.

Speaking to the Man City website, Juan Manuel Lillo celebrated his new job, saying:

I am delighted to have joined Manchester City’s coaching staff.

My relationship with Pep goes back many years and I am thrilled to be joining him as part of this exciting team.

The Times have confirmed that Lillo agreed a one-year deal with Man City.

Qingdao Huanghai claimed Juan Manuel Lillo left job because of his mother’s ill health

China’s Titan Sports have revealed an interesting note released by Qingdao Huanghai.

When Juan Manuel Lillo left the Chinese Super League club last week, Qingdao Huanghai told their supporters the manager was leaving because of his mother’s ill health.

Jonathan White, from the South China Morning Post, has compared Lillos’ exit from Qingdao Huanghai to the famous story about Stephen Ireland.

Back in 2017, former Man City midfielder Ireland pretended his grandmother had died in order to get out of playing for Ireland against the Czech Republic.

Stephen Ireland later revealed he made up the excuse to visit his girlfriend in Cork.
