Philippe Coutinho’s Anfield return rumour analysed by James Pearce & positive Liverpool team news before Everton

Philippe Coutinho’s Anfield return rumour analysed by James Pearce

A big transfer rumour broke on Saturday night: Philippe Coutinho reportedly is keen on returning to Liverpool.

Coutinho, 28, left Anfield to join Barcelona in 2018. The Brazilian cost the Catalans 142 million pounds following a protracted transfer saga.

However, after signing a five-and-half year deal at the Nou Camp, Coutinho’s career has regressed. That’s included a disappointing loan spell with Bayern Munich.

Last weekend, the Sunday World claimed that Coutinho is now trying to work a way back to Liverpool. Readers were told:

Philippe Coutinho has made a personal plea to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in a bid to engineer his return to Anfield.

Now his agent Kia Joorabchian has confirmed that Coutinho wants to return to Liverpool, even if it means taking a pay cut to seal his return.

So how accurate is this Coutinho-Liverpool story?

The Coutinho rumour has been analysed on the Athletic’s The Red Agenda podcast.

According to reporter Simon Hughes, the Coutinho story appear to have originated from the Brazilian’s camp. Moreover, it’s claimed that it’s almost “impossible” to see how Coutinho comes back to Anfield considering the huge wages he’s now on.

Even if Barcelona agreed to loaning Coutinho to Liverpool, Simon Hughes doubted the viability of Liverpool completing the deal.

The reporter pointed out that if Liverpool have the funds for Coutinho, they’d have likely signed Timo Werner instead.

The Athletic’s James Pearce has also agreed that it’s highly unlikely that Coutinho comes back to play for the Reds.

Yet, in a caveat, James Pearce outlined that the only way he could see the deal happening is if Coutinho’s financial demands dropped to such a low level that Liverpool would be willing to make a move for the playmaker.

In addition, James Pearce reminded Liverpool fans how Coutinho upset plenty of people at Anfield when he left to join Barcelona amid reports of a back injury which saw the player miss matches.

Positive Liverpool team news before Everton

Liverpool are back in action on Sunday when they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton in the Merseyside derby.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are within touching distance of winning their first league title in 30 years.

Ahead of the Everton match, Daily Mail reporter Dominic King has confirmed that Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are both fit for selection.

There had been some doubts over Salah and Robertson’s availability after the dup missed a recent friendly match against Blackburn Rovers. Liverpool won that match 6-0.

However, Dominic King has confirmed that Salah and Robertson played in an  inter-squad game at Anfield on Sunday.
