Odsonne Edouard admits to being ‘flattered’ by Arsenal links/Speaks out over Celtic future

Celtic star Odsonne Edouard has provided an update on his future, amid speculation that Premier Leageu giants Arsenal are expressing a keen interest in his signature.

French talent

Edouard, a 22-year-old striker, has been on the books of Scottish champions Celtic since the summer of 2017.

And, over the course of the last 3 years, the PSG youth product has gone on to establish himself as one of, if not the most highly-regarded young talent in Scotland.

After impressing during a loan stint in Glasgow during the 2017-18 campaign, Celtic unsurprisingly opted to make Edouard’s signing permanent, with the Frenchman having been the man chosen to replace Moussa Dembele at Parkhead.

And to say that Edouard has since managed to fill the sizable boots of his fellow countryman would be putting it lightly.

All told, since the beginning of last season, the gifted hitman has racked up a hugely-impressive 49 goals, to go along with 27 assists, across all competitions.

‘It shows you are working hard’

As such, Edouard’s stellar production has inevitably seen the 22-year-old named as a target for some of European football’s heavyweights.

Recent months have seen the likes of Manchester United and Everton both tipped to swoop for the Celtic star.

The outfit most persistently touted as a potential destination, though, have been Arsenal.

The Gunners look poised to move for attacking reinforcements this summer, with one or potentially both of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette expected to move on.

Edouard, with his combination of youth and goalscoring prowess, is therefore seemingly viewed as the ideal candidate to lead Mikel Arteta’s men into a new era.

And, as outlined above, the Frenchman has this weekend spoken out over not only his future at Celtic, but also reports of a potential move to the Emirates.

Speaking after being named the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, Edouard was drawn directly on Arsenal’s rumoured interest in his services.

And, though the former PSG man admitted to being ‘flattered’ by such links, he was also quick to reiterate his commitment to the Celtic cause:

‘It shows you are working hard and doing the right things as a player. It is flattering, but I just concentrate on trying to play well for Celtic. That’s what I am focused on at the moment.’

Edouard continued:

‘Winning 10 (league titles) in a row is very important for the club, the players and the fans. Of course, I would love to be part of it. No one knows what will happen in the future but I want to be a part of it.’

‘My first target right now is to play football again after so much time away from the pitch. I only set personal targets for myself once the season actually starts. At the moment, I am still under contract with Celtic and my priority is to get back playing again. In the future, we will see what happens.’
