‘Philippe Coutinho wants to return to Liverpool’
A big transfer rumour broke on Saturday night: Philippe Coutinho reportedly wants to return to Liverpool.
Coutinho left Anfield to join Barcelona in 2018. The Brazilian cost the Catalans 142 million pounds following a protracted transfer saga.
However, after signing a five-and-half year deal at the Nou Camp, Coutinho’s career has dipped.
He’s failed to establish himself in Spain, while he’s been farmed out to Bayern Munich, where he’s also struggled to impress.
Coutinho is currently out injured, while rumours are growing that Barcelona hope to sell the South American in the summer.
According to Kevin Palmer, Coutinho is now trying to work a way back to Liverpool.
The Irish reporter has written a story on the back page of the Sunday World, which claims:
Philippe Coutinho has made a personal plea to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in a bid to engineer his return to Anfield.
Now his agent Kia Joorabchian has confirmed that Coutinho wants to return to Liverpool, even if it means taking a pay cut to seal his return.

It’s unlikely Liverpool will re-sign Coutinho from Barcelona
Many Liverpool fans have failed to buy into the Coutinho return story.
While the player may want the deal to happen, it seems hugely unlikely that Liverpool will make such a move.

In recent days, as Liverpool appear to have lost the race to sign Timo Werner, Jurgen Klopp has laid bare Liverpool’s finances in the wake of the Covid-19 crisis.
Klopp made it clear that Liverpool couldn’t justify a 50-60 million pound signing during the current crisis.
The simple, logical conclusion is that if Liverpool couldn’t afford to sign Werner, Coutinho will also be out of their budget.
What’s not clear from the Sunday World’s Coutinho story
There’s no mention of how much money Barcelona would want in any deal for Coutinho. The assumption is that the Catalans cannot simply wipe off their investment in the Brazilian, and they’ll be looking to recoup as much of their transfer costs as possible.
The Sunday World also fail to disclose Liverpool’s reaction to Coutinho’s hopeful return.
Another issue to consider is whether Barcelona would be open to loaning Coutinho to Liverpool. Yet, even in that situation, one has to assume Coutinho’s wages would be a problem for the Reds.
