Joel Matip confirms that his Liverpool season is over & Liverpool’s predicted back four vs Man City

Joel Matip confirms that his Liverpool season is over

Days after winning the Premier League title, Liverpool defender Joel Matip has confirmed that his season is over.

Matip sustained a foot injury in the recent 0-0 draw away at Everton.

As a result, the defender missed Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Now, Matip has confirmed to Liverpool’s website that he’ll miss the rest of the campaign:

This season I will be not [be] back on the pitch but for next season, I hope I’m going to be quite early a direct help for the team.

The 28-year-old centre-half made 9 Premier League appearances for Liverpool this year.

He scored once this season, in Liverpool’s 3-1 home win against Arsenal.

Liverpool’s predicted back four vs Man City

Next up for Liverpool is an away match at Man City on Thursday.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has stoked tensions before the match, claiming that Kevin De Bruyne shouldn’t be forced into standing in a Guard of Honour for the newly crowned champs.

While Liverpool have sown up the title, Jurgen Klopp is still expected to field his strongest XI at Man City.

Joe Gomez is likely to partner Virgil Van Dijk at centre-half, while Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson will start in the full-back slots.

James Milner suffered a minor hamstring pull against Everton. While he will miss the game against his former club, he is expected to return before the end of the season.
