Ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino talks to Gulliem Balague

Former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is the focus of an upcoming feature interview from La Liga TV with Spanish reporter Gulliem Balague.

Pochettino recently finished his Spurs gardening leave after leaving the club at the start of the Premier League season.

The Argentine is now free to sign for a new employer, and Pochettino outlined some of the features he’s looking for in any new job:

The manager used to take care of practically everything, but he had less tasks and responsibilities.

Today the responsibility is so big that you need five or six leaders, in different areas. And that the players, the squad, the club who hires you must know that this coaching team has leadership, a heart and a brain that commands with everybody involved.

2013-14 Southampton team changed the mindset of English football

Back in 2013-14, Man City won the title.

The Sky Blues finished two points above Liverpool, while Chelsea and Arsenal completed the top four.

Everton and Tottenham finished in the top six, while Man United were seventh.

Southampton, who were managed by Mauricio Pochettino, ended the campaign in 8th.

According to Pochettino, that Southampton side had an enormous impact on English football:

Football in England changed with that Southampton team of 2013-14, there is no other team that had as big an impact in changing the mindset.

We arrived at a club with a president like Nicola Cortese who gave us what we needed to create something unique in English football. Our ability to adapt to a completely different environment was incredible.

We found a group of players who wanted to learn from the experiences we brought from Spanish football, and with the quality to play a different style of football to that which everyone in English football was used to.

Young players started to appear, and people started to trust in young players, also in the English national team.

2013-14 Southampton: the main players

Adam Lallana was the standout player for the Saints in 2013-14. He scored 9 goals in the league and chipped in with 6 assists.

Lallana would later move to Liverpool along with Rickie Lambert, who scored 13 league goals that season while chipping in with 10 assists.

Other key figures in that Saints team included Jay Rodriguez, Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama.

At the back, Southampton’s defence was usually Nathaniel Clyne, Dejan Lovren, Jose Fonte and Luke Shaw, with Artur Boruc in goal.
