Chelsea ready a £75m bid for Kai Havertz
As the Premier League is due to restart in 8 days, Chelsea fans have plenty to look forward to.
The Blues are 4th in the Premier League, and currently on course to play in next season’s Champions League.
Chelsea remain in this season’s Champions League too. However, following a 3-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge against Bayern Munich in their last-16 first-leg, most expect Frank Lampard’s side to exit the competition when it restarts in August.
It’s become clear in recent days that Chelsea’s plans for the 2020-21 season are already underway.
While it’s yet to materialise, Chelsea have reportedly won the race to sign German international forward Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. That deal may be confirmed this week.
On Tuesday, the big transfer story in the Daily Mail is that Chelsea are now trying to sign Bayer Leverkusen playmaker Kai Havertz.
Kai Havertz has been in sensational form all season, and especially since the Bundesliga resumed three weeks ago.
20-year-old Havertz has scored 11 goals and chipped in with 5 assists in 26 Bundesliga games.
The Mail tell their readers:
Chelsea will have to spend heavily to win the race, with Havertz’s market value sitting north of £75m and the player under contract until 2022.
It is understood that 20-year-old Havertz is the player they want, even though they will face fierce competition from other top European clubs.

Reasons to doubt the Chelsea, Kai Havertz rumour
There seems little doubt that Chelsea would love to have Kai Havertz on their roster: he’s set to be a German superstar for years to come, who is poised to take over the mantle of players like Toni Kroos in the German national team.
Yet, eyebrows should be raised over the likelihood Havertz arrives at Chelsea this summer.
In recent days, the Athletic reported that Chelsea are plotting two major signings this summer.
While the Werner deal has all-but been wrapped up, Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell has been targeted as Chelsea’s other main target.
Further, if Havertz does sign for Chelsea, that would impact the progress of several youngsters at Stamford Bridge including Mason Mount and Billy Gilmour.
Could Manchester United sign Kai Havertz?
Havertz is also a target for Manchester United, apparently.
Man Utd are making efforts to sign Kai Havertz, but a familiar story could develop here… Mr Abramovich has dusted down his wallet and wants to bring him to Chelsea alongside Timo Werner.

The Manchester Evening News recently claimed that “Havertz is open to a Manchester United move in the summer transfer window.” Readers were also told:
MEN Sport understand Havertz views a move to the Premier League as a very realistic option at the end of the season, with United one of many sides impressed by his recent performances.
Yet, there are reasons to doubt whether Havertz will actually arrive at Old Trafford.
Firstly, there’s a major question of whether Man United will play Champions League football next season. If they don’t qualify, can they really expect to land Havertz?
Secondly, Man United have also been linked to several other midfielders. Ajax’s Donny van de Beek and Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho have both been linked with possible moves to the Red Devils.
Are Bayern Munich the frontrunners to sign Kai Havertz?
While Havertz courts interest from Premier League rivals, is the smart money on the playmaker joining Bayern Munich?
Just three days ago, the Independent ran a story under the headline: “Bayern Munich confident of fending off Liverpool and Man United to land Germany midfielder”.

However, Bild reporter Tobias Altschaffl has revealed that Bayern are yet to agree a deal with Havertz.

Optimism over N’Golo Kante’s possible return
Chelsea are gearing up for the return of the Premier League.
The Blues are scheduled to return to action on June 20, with an away trip to Aston Villa.
We’ve previously reported on how Kante has been training by himself at Cobham as the French World Cup winner has kept his distance from the rest of the squad during the coronavirus pandemic.
On Tuesday, Athletic reporter Liam Twomey claimed that Chelsea are now optimistic that Kante will return to action for the Blues this season.
However, Liam Twomey failed to outline any timetable for when Kante could finally resume working with his team mates.
It’s also worth noting that ESPN don’t believe that Kante will be available for the Aston Villa game. Readers are told:
Chelsea head boss Frank Lampard is facing up to the prospect of being without key midfielder N’Golo Kante for the Premier League’s resumption next week, sources have told ESPN.
Sources have told ESPN he has not yet made a decision regarding whether he will make himself available for matches. Chelsea do not play a competitive game until travelling to Aston Villa on June 21.
However, Lampard is believed to be increasingly planning for a resumption without Kante as Chelsea look to secure Champions League qualification in their remaining nine matches.
