Adam Lallana set to agree Liverpool extension as Leicester circle & concerns over how Takumi Minamino is settling

Adam Lallana set to agree Liverpool extension as Leicester circle

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana is set to become a free agent on June 30.

However, the Times on Tuesday are confident that Lallana will agree a new deal with Liverpool to remain at the club until the end of the season.

32-year-old Lallana has made 15 Premier League appearances this season. His only goal of the season came in a 1-1 draw against Manchester United.

On Lallana’s ongoing Anfield career, the Times report:

(Lallana) knows he will leave Liverpool on a free transfer when the season is finally completed, but also wants to remain until the final scheduled game against Newcastle United at the end of July.

Klopp’s side are two wins from being crowned champions, and it remains to be seen how much Lallana will feature over the remaining nine matches.

According to the Times, Lallana is set to agree to a pay cut in his short contract extension with the Reds. Presently, Lallana earns £100,000-a-week.

Also, the Times confirm that Leicester are looking to sign Lallana when his deal on Merseyside expires. Those Leicester links are also flagged up in the Daily Mail, as readers are told:

Leicester have led the chase for him since it emerged earlier this year that he would leave Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester manager, signed Lallana in the summer of 2014 for Liverpool when he left Southampton.

Concerns over how Takumi Minamino is settling

Takumi Minamino’s name has popped up in press in the past few days.

Minamino moved to Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in the winter transfer window.

The Japanese forward cost £7.25 million, while he agreed a four-and-a-half-year contract with Liverpool.

However, doubts have been raised over how Minamino is settling into Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

In the Sunday Times, reporter James Gheerbrant aired suggestions that Minamino may still be months off settling into Liverpool’s squad:

For players signed in January, the lockdown came at a particularly inopportune time. At Liverpool, for example, Takumi Minamino has missed out on two vital months of instruction in Klopp’s philosophy.

“It would be very hard for (Minamino),” says Oliver Kirch, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. “You need four or five months to internalise this style of football, before you feel fully integrated. He played a similar style at Salzburg, with a similar intensity and counter-pressing. But Liverpool is another level. The question is whether he can catch up.”
