Willian reiterates desire to finish current season with Chelsea

Chelsea forward Willian has once again moved to provide an update on his future.

Willian’s contract situation

Willian, who joined Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk back in 2013, has enjoyed a fruitful spell in England.

All told, the Brazilian has notched 329 appearances across all competitions for the capital giants.

In said ties Willian has scored 59, assisted 59 and won numerous trophies, including two Premier League titles.

However, with just over a month remaining on his current contract, Willian’s future at Stamford Bridge looks up in the air.

The winger has been fairly vocal about the discussions he has had with the club this season.

Willian aiming to finish season

However, one sticking point for the 69-time capped international seems to be him wanting a three-year deal with Chelsea only willing to offer two.

This has, of course, led to speculation that Willian could be on the move in the near future, with Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal both linked with the pacey wide-man.

The current COVID-19 crisis has also presented another potential issue for Chelsea and Willian.

With the Premier League campaign not predicted to resume until June 12th at the earliest, a host of players, including Willian, wouldn’t be able to see out the campaign on their current deals.

The Premier League have recently confirmed that clubs and players have until the 23rd of June to agree short-term extensions to contracts due to run out on the 30th of June.

But just because that option is there, it doesn’t mean every player will be staying to finish the season, as Bournemouth’s Jordan Ibe showed earlier this week.

However, luckily for Chelsea, Willian has once again stated he is focused for the rest of the season that is left, so the Blues can continue winning games:

“It’s a difficult situation because Chelsea offered me two years and they are not going to change what they offered. I said I wanted three more years.

“The situation is difficult because of this. I really don’t know if it will be possible [to stay]. My goal is to continue working and focus on the remainder of the season, so that Chelsea can continue winning games.

“I have a clear head and I’m focused for the rest of the season that we have left. I think it’s difficult [to stay]. Let’s see what happens.”

Willian had previously stated back in mid-April that he wanted to play until the end of the season, but Chelsea fans will no doubt be glad to hear the Brazilian’s stance has seemingly not changed as we edge closer to the resumption of PL football.
