Steven Gerrard speaks to Paul Joyce
In the Times on Thursday, Steven Gerrard has spoken to reporter Paul Joyce during his Covid-19 lockdown.
Gerrard has switched from Glasgow to Liverpool during the period of UK’s social distancing measures, to naturally spend time with his family.
During the interview, Gerrard has discussed how he’s evolved as a manager on his two-year anniversary of being appointed as Rangers boss.
He also dropped in a few comments about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

On his 2-year Rangers anniversary
Will Celtic end up being crowned Scottish champs?
It remains to be seen if the SPFL will finish the 2019-20 season.
When the league was suspended, Celtic were hurtling towards the Scottish title with a 13-point lead over Rangers.
Rangers have struggled in 2020.
After recording the club’s first victory over Celtic at Parkhead in 9 long years in December, Rangers lost their way. The low point was a 1-0 home defeat to Hamilton in March.
Yet, for all their ups and downs, Gerrard is certain he’s a better manager now than when he arrived at Ibrox in May 2018. Gerrard said:
In terms of me being proud and happy to be the manager, and wanting to move the club forward and improve it, then I am all in. It was always going to be a job where I had to learn on the go.
I knew walking into the job what I was taking on but if you are asking me the question, ‘Am I a better manager for the two-year experience and are Rangers in a better position now to what they were?’ then my answer is yes.
How will Covid-19 impact Rangers in the transfer market?
Like most clubs around the world, Rangers are preparing for the economic fallout from the Covid-19 crisis.
Gerrard was unable to go into too much detail about how Rangers may be impacted in the transfer market. But he did say:
I can only really speak on a broad level and there is an ambition at the club from the top to keep trying to make the team stronger and better and more competitive.
It would be very naive and stupid of me to expect this or expect that and to demand this or demand that. Right now, we are going through a world crisis.
Gerrard’s daily interaction with Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp
Of course, the topic of Gerrard’s first love – Liverpool – cropped up.
The Rangers boss revealed how he sees the Liverpool manager on a daily basis from his window:
Jürgen is going to be the fittest manager out there when football comes back.
He runs past my house at the same time every single day and he runs past going the other way, so he is definitely jogging for more than an hour.
I also see him walking his dog and, with the guidelines, we can speak from a distance.
To see Jürgen gives me a lift. To bump into him at this time is always a positive for me.
