Gareth Bale talks to Erik Anders Lang
PGA Tour host Erik Anders Lang has released a new 45-minute interview with Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale on YouTube this week.
Bale is known for his love for golf, and the Welsh star was only too keen to talk about the sport on the show.
However, Bale also discussed how some have tried to turn golf into a negative issue with regard to his football career.

Bale hits back at his golf critics
In short, Bale believes he’s received far too much criticism for playing golf during his Real Madrid career. The 30-year-old said:
A lot of people have problems with me playing golf, I don’t know what the reason is. I’ve spoken to doctors and everybody’s fine with it.
The media have this perception that it’s not good for me. ‘You should be resting, it can cause problems, injuries.’
In America, I know Steph Curry plays maybe on the morning of a game. Here, if I play two days before a game it’s like ‘what’s he doing?’
Bale also argued that golf can actually help his performances on the football pitch. He said:
You can get away from the football, away from anything negative that’s going on, and reset your mind, and the next day you feel a bit more fresh and ready to go and concentrate and feel better about football again.
Bale’s Real Madrid future
Back in March, Spanish paper Sport claimed that Bale had broken Spanish quarantine rules to go out to play golf.
The incident happened after Real Madrid basketball player Trey Thompkins had turned up a positive Covid-19 case.
Sport claimed that Bale’s behaviour was an example of how “totally disconnected (Bale is) from the rest of the Madrid first team.”
The paper also used that opportunity to tell their readers that “Zidane does not have him” in his squad.
Yet, Bale remains under contract until 2022, and it’s difficult to see him leaving anytime soon.
