Ousmane Dembele’s La Liga season is over & Barcelona won’t be testing him for Covid-19

Ousmane Dembele’s La Liga season is over

On Tuesday night on Spanish radio station Cadena SER, listeners were told that Ousmane Dembele’s 2019-20 La Liga season is over.

It’s been a trying season for Dembele, who has repeatedly struggled with injuries.

The 22-year-old has been recently sidelined with a muscular injury sustained in early February.

Dembele’s injury forced Barcelona to move in the transfer market, as they signed Danish forward Martin Braithwaite from Leganes in an emergency deal.

However, as a result of Braithwaite’s arrival at the Camp Nou, Dembele was delisted from Barcelona’s La Liga squad.

As a result, if the 2019-20 La Liga season resumes, Dembele cannot play for Barcelona as he’s not registered.

Barcelona won’t be testing Ousmane Dembele for Covid-19

In a double whammy for the forward, another by-product of being delisted from the squad is that Ousmane Dembele is no longer included in Barcelona’s rigorous testing for Covid-19.

Barcelona’s squad are all set to be tested on Wednesday.

Moreover, while Barcelona are scheduled to return to training on Friday, it’s unclear whether Ousmane Dembele will be allowed to participate.

Dembele may have to pay for private Covid-19 testing if he wants to join in with his Barcelona team mates.

When could La Liga restart?

The Spanish La Liga season is aiming to restart in June. However, there’s currently no fixed date for when the 2019-20 season may continue.

There are 11 rounds of matches remaining.

Barcelona are in first place, two points clear of Real Madrid.
