Official: FA Cup quarter-finals rescheduled for weekend of June 27-28

An official announcement regarding the return of the FA Cup has come to light on Friday.

English football returning

Whilst football has slowly begun to return around the world, with the Bundesliga currently the most high-profile league in action, football in England has been on hold since the 13th of March.

However, in recent days, the Premier League has taken a big step forward in their ‘Project Restart’ plan.

Premier League clubs unanimously voted on Thursday to resume contact training.

This was followed by the PL laying out a provisional restart date later the same day.

In a meeting of Premier League Shareholders, it was agreed upon that June 17th would be said date, with two ties taking place that day.

 FA Cup dates announced

But whilst the Premier League now has an official return date laid out, safety permitting, of course, there were still question marks over whether or not the FA Cup would even return this year.

However, as mentioned above, the FA have, on Friday, followed in the steps of the Premier League by setting out a provisional restart date for the competition.

The competition was in the quarter-final stages before the campaign was halted, and as per an official statement from the FA:

the Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals will now take place over the weekend of Saturday 27 June and Sunday 28 June.

The semi-finals are then set to be played out on the weekend of July 18-19 with the final taking place on August 1st.

The scheduled quarter-final clashes are as follows:

Leicester City vs Chelsea, Newcastle United vs Manchester City, Sheffield United vs Arsenal and Norwich City vs Manchester United.
