Aymeric Laporte has recently moved to provide an injury update on himself after the defender picked up an injury vs Real Madrid.
Man City down Real Madrid
Shortly before the season was halted Manchester City faced a gruelling trip to the Bernabeu.
The Champions League is the only trophy that has alluded Pep Guardiola at City and with a European ban on the horizon, this year may have been the Spaniard’s last shot at clinching Europe’s most coveted club prize with the Sky Blues.
Man City typically have a fairly average record in the CL, crashing out in the quarter-finals in the previous two years.
So, when City drew Real Madrid in this season’s last 16, the Citizens may have feared the worst.
However, in what was a superb display from Man City’s players and Guardiola, the Premier League outfit managed to secure a 2-1 away victory in the first leg at the end of February.
Laporte injury update
City did suffer one blow that evening though as Aymeric Laporte was forced off after 33 minutes.
Due to COVID-19 City have played just three ties since that night in Spain, but Laporte has missed them all.
The Frenchman has had a torrid time with injuries this term so City fans will have no doubt been hoping his latest injury wasn’t too serious.
And now, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Laporte has moved to provide an update on himself.
The City standout stated the injury he sustained vs Madrid wasn’t a big one and both his hamstring and knee are ok now:
“It was not a big injury, it was just something light. I needed one or two weeks to rest, so I would have been fine for the second leg. It wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been. Everything – my hamstring, my knee – is now OK.”
Laporte as also added he will be back in good physical condition when football resumes:
“When we return, I’ll be back in good physical condition. Of course, what we are doing is not the same sport.
“You need more than just running… you need the ball, the feel of the grass and the contact. I don’t have it at home, so hopefully, soon we’ll be back on the pitch.”
