Will the 2019-20 Premier League season finish?
For the first time this week, the Premier League clubs began to discuss what will happen if the 2019-20 season is curtailed.
The topic came up during Monday’s latest conference call regarding Project Restart.
There are several options for how the Premier League clubs could decide to end the season early, including:
– Points-per-game calculation
– Weighed points-per-game
– Roll-back to gameweek 27
Note: the option of declaring the 2019-20 Premier League season null and void has been taken off the table.
A full breakdown of all models for the final Premier League table. All logic: the good, the bad and the ugly.
Including:

Man City’s European ban will qualify Man United for the Champions League
ESPN’s Dale Johnson has dug into the different options for finishing the Premier League season.
He’s revealed that regardless of which option is favoured, Manchester United will currently qualify for the 2020-21 Champions League.
The Red Devils are set to join Liverpool, Leicester and Chelsea in the competition.
Man United were 5th in the standings when the league was suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are poised to play UCL football next term as Man City are currently banned from European competition for two seasons.
What’s happening with Man City’s European ban?
UEFA banned Man City from all European competition for two years back in February.
The Sky Blues have been adjudged to have broken Financial Fair Play regulations.
However, Manchester City are now appealing that decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
Dale Johnson has noted that:
If Manchester City win their appeal against a two-year European ban, they would replace United in the Champions League (who drop to the Europa League group stage).
But when will the Court of Arbitration for Sport listen to Man City’s appeal?
As noted by Dale Johnson, while there is no precise timeframe for the appeal, “it won’t be until late September at the very earliest”.
The appeal could be heard within days of the first English team playing in European competition in 2020-21, which won't be until late September at the very earliest. It has happened many times this way.

What happens to Man City’s ban if there’s no 2020-21 Champions League?
It’s still unknown whether UEFA will be able to stage the 2020-21 Champions League.
In the event the competition cannot be played, how would this impact on Man City’s ban?
Dale Johnson has guessed that in that scenario, “if there is no Champions League or Europa League season I would expect the ban isn’t served”.
However, that’s yet to be confirmed.
If there is no Champions League or Europa League season I would expect the ban isn't served, but that would only be a guess.
