A recent report from England suggests that Manchester City are attempting to tie Gabriel Jesus down to a fresh deal.
Jesus’ time at Man City
Gabriel Jesus joined Manchester City back in the summer of 2016.
Despite having zero European experience to his name, Man City are believed to have paid an initial £27m for the Brazilian’s services.
After nearly four seasons in England, Jesus has notched 139 appearances across all competitions for the Manchester powerhouse, in which he has scored 63 and assisted 25.
But whilst Jesus has been a key figure in City cementing themselves as one of the most dominant sides in Premier League history, the now 23-year-old has never really been first choice at Man City with the former Palmeiras standout quite clearly behind Sergio Aguero in the striker pecking order.
And though some may have believed Jesus was brought in to eventually replace the Argentine, despite nearly four years in England, Jesus’ ability to be City’s main source of goals does seem somewhat questionable.
This may be in part due to the fact the 39-time capped international spent a lot of his early career as a winger and has himself recently admitted he drifts out wide more than he probably should for the Sky Blues:
“Against Real Madrid I played on the wing. Usually, when I start as a striker, I naturally tend to go for the flanks.
“Sometimes I get scolded, but I keep doing that! At City you need to stay more central because the midfielders create a lot, but I don’t always do that!”

Jesus set for new deal?
Despite Jesus perhaps not being the ideal candidate to eventually replace the soon to be 32-year-old Aguero, City are, as mentioned above, seemingly keen to extend the attacker’s stint at the Etihad.
Jesus last signed a contract extension back in 2018 and is currently tied down until 2023.
However, according to the Sun, the Citizens are poised to hand Jesus a new deal worth £120,000-per-week, in order to block interest from Juventus.
The Sun claims that whether or not Man City are successful in overturning their two-year Champions League ban could play a role in Jesus signing a new deal.
But, crucially, it is also added that Man City have a good relationship with Jesus’ camp, which improves their chances of extending the forward’s contract.
