Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has recently suggested he would be open to returning to Spain.
Aguero’s Man City stint
Sergio Aguero joined Manchester City all the way back in 2011, leaving Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.
Since making the switch to England, the Argentine has gone on to cement a legacy that will remain for many years to come.
Aguero has, in total, garnered 368 appearances across all competitions for the Sky Blues, in which he has scored a staggering 254 goals and provided 72 assists.
Frighteningly consistent, Aguero will no doubt go down as one of both City’s and the Premier League’s all-time greatest players.
Despite not spending his full career in England, the Independiente youth has scored the 4th most goals of any player in PL history and is the highest-ranked foreign player in the list ahead of Thierry Henry in 6th spot.
Aguero discusses future
Aguero is also just eight goals away from overtaking Andy Cole in 3rd place and 29 goals away from usurping Wayne Rooney in 2nd spot.
And you would think, should this season indeed be finished and Aguero remain at the Etihad next term, that he has a great chance of overtaking both stars.
However, in the summer of 2021, Aguero’s current deal at Man City is up and City fans may be forced to say goodbye to a club legend.
Aguero has himself also recently been speaking about his future and whilst he did state he isn’t thinking about what he is going to do, he is aware his contract is getting closer to expiring:
“It’s difficult; I’m not thinking about what am I going to do. I know that every day my contract is closer to expiring. Probably there will be some offers but we’ll see.
“For now I just want to try to win the Champions League with City. That would be an incredible achievement for me and the club. “#But I haven’t really thought about what I will do after 2021. Also the current landscape makes things more difficult. If next season starts later, it will probably end later – maybe in August, something like that.
“And a lot of players have their contracts expiring in June – we’ll have to see how everything is sorted out. If contracts are prolonged I don’t know, we’ll see how it goes.”
Aguero then went on to claim that he doesn’t rule out a return to Spain, where he had previously impressed on the books of Atletico Madrid:
“I don’t rule out going back to Spain, or going to any country. I don’t know what I will do. Today I feel good and comfortable in Manchester. I want to do everything in the club in the best terms, then we’ll see.”
