Kevin De Bruyne drops Manchester City exit hint

Man City’s European ban

Unless they can overturn the decision on appeal, Manchester City are facing a two-year European football ban.

That ban was imposed by UEFA after Man City were found guilty of breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Currently, Man City’s ban will come into effect from the 2020-21 season.

Kevin De Bruyne drops Man City exit hint

This weekend, during an interview with HLN, Kevin De Bruyne has suggested he could leave Man City if the European ban isn’t dispelled.

De Bruyne stated his belief that he can’t wait two years before he plays Champions League football again. KDB said:

I’m just waiting a little bit. The club has told us that they will appeal the decision. And they are 100 per cent convinced that they are in the right.

I have confidence in my club. If they are saying it’s true, then I believe them. We’ll wait and see what happens. Once there’s a final decision I will look at it.

Two years [without Champions League football] would be long. One year is something I might be able to cope with.

Should Man City be worried about De Bruyne’s future?

De Bruyne, 28, is under contract with City until 2023.

However, the Belgian midfielder dropped several other hints that he’s planning for life after Man City in his conversation with HLN.

For example, De Bruyne noted that his future isn’t tied to that of Pep Guardiola:

I think Pep has said that he’ll stay until the end of next year. We’ll have to wait.

But I’m not going to make a decision based on what he does. I have already worked under other managers.

In addition, De Bruyne added that other clubs continue to search for his signature:

A lot of clubs have inquired, and have asked after my future plans, but I’m very happy at Man City.

Whatever will come, will come. I have always played the game fairly when I moved clubs. I have never been a troublemaker.
