Borussia Dortmund 4 – Schalke 0
The big match as the Bundesliga returned last weekend was the Revierderby between Borussia Dortmund and Schalke.
BVB, who are trying to pip Bayern to the title, beat their rivals 4-0 in front of an empty Signal Iduna Stadium.
Erling Haaland continued his remarkable start to life at Dortmund breaking the deadlock after 29 minutes. That’s his 12th goal in 13 Dortmund games.
Raphael Guerreiro fired Borussia 2-up on the stroke of halftime, while Thorgan Hazard added a third minutes after the restart.
Guerreiro – with probably the goal of the game – bagged BVB’s fourth in the 63rd.
Erling Haaland’s post Schalke interview
Much has been made about Erling Haaland’s post-match interview following the Schalke game.
After the match ended, Haaland and the BVB team walked over to the club’s famed Yellow Wall, where the players celebrated their win in front of the empty seats.

When asked to explain that post-match gesture, the following exchange unfolded:
Haaland: Why not.
Interviewer: Is there a kind of message you’d like to send out?
Haaland: Yes.
Interviewer: Would you tell us the message?
Haaland: To my fans.
Interviewer: They’re everything to you and Dortmund?
Haaland: It is.

Backlash: Is Haaland rude?
The tone and shortness of Haaland’s answers has triggered plenty of debate on social media about the footballer’s like ability.
Some, like Sky Sports’ Jacqui Oatley, believe Haaland is missing a great opportunity to communicate with his fans.

Piers Morgan has also given his reaction to Haaland’s interview style.
The UK talking-head believes the 19-year-old’s “arrogance with the media is unedifying”.

However, some reporters are defending Haaland, including former Premier League striker Jan Aage Fjortoft.
Fjortoft has shared a longer edit of the Haaland interview from after the Schalke win, in which the striker gave far fuller answers to questions.
In addition, Fjortoft has stepped in to bat away criticisms of Haaland’s character.

BT Sport’s Bundesliga live streaming figures revealed
The Mirror’s John Cross has delved into the viewing figures of Saturday’s Bundesliga matches on BT Sport in the UK.
According to the Mirror: “BT Sport suffer disappointing Bundesliga viewing figures – beaten by Midsomer Murders”.
The peak figure for the Borussia Dortmund-Schalke game was 652,000.
As for Eintracht Frankfurt vs Borussia Monchengladbach, which was the second game on BT Sport, 192,000 watched that match.
So why did the Mirror conclude that BT Sport’s numbers were poor? John Cross wrote:
(Because BVB vs Schalke) only came in third in the top 20 of non-terrestrial shows on Saturday.
It was behind Most Wanted – Lewis with 886,000 viewers and detective show Midsomer Murders got a peak of 836,000.

Some have hit back quickly at the claims the viewing figures were poor, with the following arguments:
– You can’t compare a cable sports channel to terrestrial TV.
– The figures were higher than many Premier League matches this season.
