Didier Deschamps praises N’Golo Kante for staying away from Chelsea & Blues linked with signing Brentford’s Saïd Benrahma

Didier Deschamps praises N’Golo Kante for staying away from Chelsea

There’s been a drip-drip of information regarding Chelsea’s star midfielder, N’Golo Kante, in recent days following his decision to stay away from training in the build up to the Premier League’s return.

While Kante turned up on day one of training, he’s not been back since.

In recent days, Chelsea goalie Willy Caballero revealed that Kante felt he had Covid-19 “symptoms” during the UK’s lockdown.

Meanwhile, reporters focused on Chelsea have begun to wonder (a) will Kante return this season, (b) and if not, what about next season?

On Wednesday, French national team coach, Didier Deschamps, has spoken about Kante’s situation during an interview with Le Parisian.

Deschamps: “You have to take into account the feelings of the players”

Deschamps has hailed Kante, and fully supported the player in his decision to stay at home:

Not only do I understand it, but I find the case of (N’Golo Kante) exemplary.

N’Golo is whole, natural. He always has a smile.

He has expressed his feelings. I told him: ‘respect’.

It is good that his club heard him and granted him his wish. You have to take into account the feelings of the players.

Football is their job and their passion. They have ‘ants on their legs’ but they cannot live the current situation in a carefree manner, without being worried.

If the club, which is the employer, demands that they come to train, it is complicated for them not to perform…

Blues linked with signing Brentford’s Saïd Benrahma

Algerian news outlet La Gazette du Fennec have reported that Chelsea are looking to sign Saïd Benrahma from Brentford.

24-year-old Benrahma is under contract with the Bees until 2022.

In 34 Championship matches this season, Benrahma has scored 10 goals and chipped in with 8 assists.

La Gazette du Fennec say that Chelsea have “accelerated” their interest in signing Benrahma, and the Blues have begun official talks.

The outlet predicts that while Hakim Ziyech is set to operate down Chelsea’s right flank next season, the Blues want to play Benrahma down the left.

Where this leaves Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi is up for debate.

On Benrahma’s price tag, the report notes that Brentford rejected a 16 million euro offer for the Algerian international in January.
