Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho & Matt Hummels injury problems before Der Klassiker vs Bayern Munich

Der Klassiker: Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich

Football fans are going to be glued to their TV screens on Tuesday night for the biggest game of the 2019-20 Bundesliga season so far.

Borussia Dortmund will host Bayern Munich in an empty Signal Iduna Park in a title-defining match in ‘Der Klassiker’.

BVB are second in the league on 57 points, while Bayern Munich are top on 61 points.

Will Dortmund be able to shrink the gap to only one point with 7 rounds of the season to go?

Dortmund beat Wolfsburg 2-0 on Saturday

Yesterday, Dortmund picked up maximum points in a 2-0 away win at Wolfsburg.

Raphaël Guerreiro scored his third goal in two matches to fired Borussia into a 32-minute lead.

Achraf Hakimi sealed the points with Dortmund’s second goal 12 minutes from time.

Bayern Munich 5 – Eintracht Frankfurt 2

However, Bayern also cruised to victory on Saturday in the Bundesliga as they scored five goals against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern went 3-up in the match following goals from Leon Goretzka, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.

However, Eintracht scored twice in three minutes thanks to Martin Hinteregger to spice up the match before the hour.

Yet, Bayern weren’t rattled, as they increased their lead with further strikes from Alphonso Davies and a Hinteregger own goal.

Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho & Matt Hummels injury problems

Lucien Favre is looking at a couple of injury problems before the Bayern match.

Since the Bundesliga resumed action a couple of weeks ago, Jadon Sancho is still awaiting his first start. He’s on the comeback trail from a calf injury.

Sancho played no part in a 4-0 derby win against Schalke. While, against Wolfsburg, Sancho came off the bench in the second half.

For what it’s worth, Sancho set up Achraf Hakimi for BVB’s second goal.

The England international has 14 goals and 16 assists in the Bundesliga this season.

After the Wolfsburg game, Favre explained how fit Sancho is:

He’s only been training with the team for 10 days. That is not much.

I can’t say for sure if he will play on Tuesday.

In the reverse fixture back in November, Bayern thrashed Dortmund 4-0.

Three of the four goals that day were scored by players that have played for both teams: Robert Lewandowski (2) and Mats Hummels (own goal). Serge Gnabry bagged the other.

There are doubts over Hummels’ availability on Tuesday night after the centre-half was subbed out of the Wolfsburg game on Saturday with a knock.

After the game, BVB’s Michael Zorc said:

I spoke briefly to the doctor. Mats has a complaint with his achilles tendon.

He has had this from training for a long time. But we hope that he can play again on Tuesday.

Favre also spoke about Hummels, saying:

I can’t tell if he will play or not. I hope that he will be back on Tuesday.
