Arsene Wenger celebrated when Liverpool lost to Watford

Liverpool are on course to win their first league title in 30 years.

The Reds are 25 points clear of Man City, and just two wins away from winning their first Premier League title.

However, Liverpool failed to complete the season unbeaten following a 3-0 defeat at Watford in February.

Ismaila Sarr starred for Watford in that win as he scored a brace and set up Troy Deeney for the third.

On Saturday, Arsene Wenger appeared on beIN Sports on French TV.

During his interview, Wenger was asked about his reaction to Liverpool’s defeat at Watford.

That defeat meant that Wenger’s 2003-04 Arsenal side remains the only team to have completed a Premier League season without losing. Wenger told beIN Sports:

Yes, it was a form of satisfaction (to see Liverpool lose).

We always like to be the only ones to achieve something.

They (Liverpool) could really go all the way. But it shows that it’s difficult to repeat this feat.

Anyway, that day, I had a lot of messages from Arsenal supporters.

Why Wenger will never attend another Arsenal game

In another eye-catching remark, Wenger revealed he has no intention of going to another Arsenal game in person:

Would I return to the Emirates Stadium? I always said to myself that I would be leaving Arsenal completely. That’s the decision I made.

Wenger’s comments about returning to Arsenal’s stadium aren’t new information.

The Athletic’s Daniel Taylor recently looked into the issue of Wenger’s absence from an Arsenal home game in the two-years since his exit from the club.

According to that report, Wenger remains upset about how he left Arsenal. It was also suggested that Wenger may have an axe to grind with some figures who remain at the club:

Wenger would later admit that it “was not my decision” (to leave the club) and, though Arsenal have always hated the idea that it might be portrayed as a sacking, there is considerable evidence that it grieves him more than he has ever been willing to let on.

One close acquaintance, asked why Wenger has never returned to the Emirates, is emphatic. “There are a few people he wouldn’t necessarily want to see,” is the verdict.
