David Luiz has once again reiterated his desire to finish his playing career with former club, Benfica.
Luiz set to leave Arsenal?
After another prosperous spell at Chelsea, David Luiz departed Stamford Bridge for a second time this past summer.
However, unlike in 2014, the Brazilian opted to remain in England and also in London, joining one of the Blues’ close rivals, Arsenal.
The Gunners are understood to have paid around £8m for the now 33-year-old’s services, a fairly decent fee considering Luiz’s years of experience.
Luiz hasn’t had the perfect stint at Arsenal, with his decision making still often cause for concern, despite his vast experience around Europe.
But to his credit, Luiz, along with the rest of Arsenal’s backline, was in solid form under Mikel Arteta before the campaign was halted.
Yet despite the former Chelsea standout featuring in every league game under Arteta this term, Luiz’s future at Arsenal appears to be up in the air.
In fact, it was recently reported by Sky Sports News that the Brazil international’s spell at Arsenal looks set to come to an imminent end, with the centre-half out of contract next month, and no negotiations over a new deal in the pipeline.

Luiz eyeing Benfica return
This has led to increased speculation about where Luiz could end up next.
The defender himself has previously expressed a desire to see out his career with former club, Benfica.
And a recent report from the Portuguese media claims that the Águias have made their interest in securing the defender’s signature this summer clear.
That same report also alleged that Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira is said to have reached out to Luiz, to inform him of the club’s desire to reunite with him.
And judging by recent comments from the stopper himself, the above could most certainly have been true.
Speaking in an interview with Record, Luiz claimed he has already spoken to Vieira about making a return to the Estádio da Luz:
“I already spoke with Vieira about the return.
“My dream is to end my career at Benfica. When, I don’t know, but it will happen… it will, if President Vieira allows me and if the fans want me to come back.
“It will be one of the most beautiful moments of my career.”
