2 positive Covid-19 cases at Borussia Mönchengladbach
On Monday, 10 new positive Covid-19 cases were revealed in German football.
According to the Rheinische Post, it’s now been confirmed that two of those positive cases came from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
When the Bundesliga was suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, Borussia Mönchengladbach were fourth in the league.
Borussia Mönchengladbach are two points behind second-placed Borussia Dortmund, and six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
As has been commonplace in these situations, the identity of the two people who contracted Covid-19 remains under wraps.
However, Rheinische Post did confirm that one player and one staff member of the Bundesliga club have been affected.
Both men have since been placed in quarantine, however the rest of the Borussia Mönchengladbach squad have continued to train.
It’s noted that the footballer in question now runs the risk of missing the restart of the Bundesliga. However, the player’s situation is set to become clearer imminently as they are scheduled for another test shortly.
Bundesliga May restart to get green light
On Tuesday, Reuters boosted hopes that the Bundesliga could restart in nine days, on May 15.
Readers were told that “German states are set to allow the Bundesliga soccer league to resume matches, probably from May 15, under strict conditions without fans in stadiums, the sources said.”
On Wednesday, Bild announce that the German government are now prepared to green light the Bundesliga’s resumption plans. Bild report:
It’s now certain that the Bundesliga & 2. Bundesliga will be permitted to restart due to the “special situation of pro athletes.” But the exact date remains open, per a draft resolution, though a May date is still the target.

Problems emerge in the German third tier
If, as is hoped, football resumes in Germany, the top two leagues in the country are set to complete the 2019-20 season.
However, as reported in Bild, the third tier, 3. Bundesliga, may be forced to end their season imminently.
That’s after SC Preußen Münster have confirmed that they are struggling with plans to implement social distancing measures at their club.
3. Bundesliga side Preußen Münster don’t see themselves in a position to implement the hygiene plan put fwd by the DFL due to lack of space. 3rd division sides come under auspices of DFB rather than DFL, the recommendation is teams from that division follow a similar concept.

Preußen Münster said in a statement it was particularly difficult for a club of their limited means to find alternative areas needed to implement the hygiene measures & therefore maintain distancing. Preußen Münster are in favour of cancelling the season.
